NAMUNA GHAR

The Namuna Ghar in Datattraya, Bhaktapur, is a special heritage that reflects Nepal’s glorious medieval art, architecture, and history. The house was discovered to be over 150 years old during the restoration process. It had been neglected for a long time before being repurposed as a chicken farm house in its last years. This same old, damaged house bore fruit after reconstruction using traditional methods and techniques, and received the prestigious UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2004. However, prior to attaining global recognition, the home was already regarded as ‘Namuna Ghar’, which translates to ‘Model House’, by Bhaktapur Municipality, which is how the building got its name.
